The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) commended China's nuclear and radiation safety regulations following a recent assessment. The evaluation, part of the IAEA's Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission from June 29 to July 11, highlighted China's effective regulatory practices and safety records in operational nuclear facilities. Li Zhiguo, deputy director of the National Nuclear Safety Administration, stated that construction quality and management of radioactive sources nationwide are well controlled, ensuring public health and environmental safety. The assessment team, comprising 20 senior representatives from 17 countries, identified innovative practices in China’s regulatory system, such as high-level industry exchanges, the use of artificial intelligence, and big data for decision-making.
